I got to sleep in a bit today, which was nice. And much needed. After my 19 mile ride/4 mi run brick yesterday I didn't expect much of a long ride today, but it went pretty well, I think. 40 miles at 19 mph. And I made it a point to keep it easy for most of the ride. Until the dude with the sweet Felt passed me and I used him as a pacer. I admit it, I drafted a few times, but mostly when we both had to slow down for traffic. My goal was to stay near. If I thought I could have traded turns pulling with him I might have tried to catch up and draft and chat etc, but he was just chilling out there. I am properly humbled (and jonesing for a hardcore tri-bike).
So, let's do some math today:
Breakfast (1 hr before ride); 1 Bowl of oatmeal with peanutbutter and honey
Ride; 40 miles
Pace; 19 mph
Time spent riding; 2:06:05
Food ingested during ride; 1 bottle gatorade
Food ingested when finished; 2 slices of sourdough bread &1 bottle gatorade
RESULT
30 minutes of shivering, even though it was a warm day
1 hour later onset of nausea and mild lightheadedness
(was able to eat lunch shortly after)
Which lasted for 2 hours (but was mostly gone by the time I had to get up in front of the congregation and play the violin. being lightheaded does not make for in-tune performances)
Inability to climb 2 flights of stairs without feeling really tired
Oh, yeah, that's how you want to end a recovery week, especially with the long run tomorrow. At least I can do that in the afternoon, and get in a few more hours of recovery. Off to take some iron and go to sleep.

OK, so I was going to go to sleep, but this story needs to be told to the world. Minouche (pronounced: Mee-Noosh), my cat, just jumped into (or fell into, I'm not sure which) a bathtub full of water. In her rush to get out she knocked over a large mixing bowl filled with soapy water which I use to wipe down my bike, getting herself and my bathroom, even more thoroughly wet.
Completely nonplussed, and with a fully piloerect tail, she darted out of the room at top speed, tracking water down the hall and into the living room. She is sitting there now, her bottom half soaking wet and much thinner-looking than normal, trying to groom her fur back into something presentable.
Poor thing.
Might have to lock her out of the bedroom now just to keep her from getting my bed all wet.
